Make the most of summer with three Viking Way short walks

To celebrate the Viking Way’s 50th anniversary, West Lindsey District Council is inviting residents and visitors to explore three circular walks showcasing the area’s countryside, heritage and village charm.

This year marks 50 years since the Viking Way opened in September 1976.

The 149-mile route stretches from the Humber Bridge in North Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland, taking in some of the region’s most spectacular landscapes, including the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape.

The Viking Way Shorts series allows walkers to experience sections of this iconic route through shorter circular walks, ideal for a leisurely day out.

Choose from three scenic routes:

- Caistor Circular (3.75 miles, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes) - Explore the historic market town of Caistor and nearby Nettleton, passing Roman remains, natural springs and attractive countryside.

- Tealby Circular (4.4 miles, approximately 2 hours) - Discover one of Lincolnshire’s prettiest villages, with rolling Wolds scenery, links to Alfred Lord Tennyson and peaceful countryside views.

- Cherry Willingham, Reepham and Fiskerton Circular (6 miles, approximately 3 hours) - Enjoy tranquil countryside, charming villages and local heritage, including a former RAF station.

Whether you are a regular walker or simply looking for a new outdoor adventure this summer, the Viking Way Shorts provide an ideal opportunity to explore some of West Lindsey’s most picturesque landscapes and communities.

Coun Peter Morris, Chair of Thriving Places Committee, said: “As we celebrate 50 years of the Viking Way, these shorter circular routes provide a fantastic opportunity for people to experience some of the highlights of this iconic trail. Whether you’re discovering the route for the first time or revisiting favourite stretches, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
