World Oceans Day is an annual global celebration and a platform for global outreach to encourage and inspire people to safeguard our oceans. This year the theme is Sustainable Fishing.  The theme underscores the importance of sustainable fishing practices in ensuring the health and abundance of marine resources for generations to come.

Residents and staff had a great time visiting Skegness Aquarium, learning about all the ways in which we can help the oceans; from finding out about the environmental challenges that face our marine life to the effects of overfishing and climate change, to how we can all use less plastic and help in the efforts to reduce pollution in our rivers and coasts.  There is so much we can all do to help replenish our oceans and protect marine life.

General Manager, Jane Lee, said “Our residents love learning new things, and they were fascinated by everything they discovered and discussed today. The visit inspired many conversations about the importance of protecting our oceans, and everyone agreed that we all have a part to play in caring for the environment and the wildlife that depends on it. They especially loved seeing the beautiful marine creatures up close and learning more about the incredible world beneath the waves. It was a truly enjoyable and educational day for everyone.”

Norman, a resident said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the aquarium. It was wonderful to see such beautiful sea creatures up close, and I learned a great deal about how pollution affects our oceans. It really opened my eyes to the importance of protecting marine life for future generations.”
