Grantham care home staff experience virtual dementia bus
“We are committed to providing supportive and compassionate dementia care that is centered around each individual”
The team at Royal Windsor Care Home in Grantham welcomed the Training2Care Virtual Dementia Bus, taking part in an immersive training experience designed to deepen their understanding of dementia and further enhance the compassionate, person-centered care they provide.

The innovative Virtual Dementia Tour gave staff a powerful insight into the physical and sensory challenges experienced by people living with dementia.
Through specially designed simulations, team members experienced some of the confusion and anxiety that can accompany the condition, helping to build empathy and a deeper understanding of residents’ everyday experiences.

A dementia diagnosis can affect the whole family, and having a team with a deeper understanding of the condition helps residents feel safe, understood, and supported in their everyday lives, while providing reassurance to their loved ones. By working closely with residents and families, the team can better understand each person’s individual needs, preferences, and routines, helping them feel comfortable and at home.
The home is also committed to strengthening its links with dementia communities, support groups, and organisations in Grantham and the surrounding area, helping to share knowledge and connect families with additional support.
Denise Stephenson, managing director for Royal Windsor Care Home, said: “We are committed to providing supportive and compassionate dementia care that is centered around each individual.
The Virtual Dementia Tour was an incredibly powerful experience for our team, giving us a greater understanding of the challenges people living with dementia can face every day. It has encouraged us to reflect on how we communicate, support and care for our residents, helping us to create an environment where they feel safe, understood and valued. We also recognise how important it is to support families and to build strong relationships with the wider dementia community in and around Grantham. We want Royal Windsor to be a place where residents and their loved ones feel supported, but also a home that plays an active role in connecting with and contributing to our local community.”

The experience reinforced Royal Windsor Care Home’s commitment to staff development and delivering compassionate and supportive dementia care as well as supporting families.
Royal Windsor Care Home provides high-quality residential, dementia and respite care in a warm, welcoming environment, with a focus on dignity, independence and helping residents live fulfilling lives.
