Looking back at the last eight months - Humberside International Women's Club
A busy few months for women’s group
The past eight months have been a busy time for the HIWC. We have hosted a diverse range of guest speakers as well as two big charity fundraising events.

Thanks to the efforts of our members to raising monies for charity, we were able to pass cheques to two charities earlier this year. The first one went to the local charity ' Young Carers Team ' in Brigg and the second one was handed to the International charity ' Nations Together' in Tanzania.
At the beginning of the year we welcomed Pam Hodge, the founder of ' The Rock Foundation ' as our first guest speaker. The Rock Foundation offers help and support to adults with learning disabilities. She was followed by Judith Hedley, who talked us through 1819, the year without a summer and James Elliott, better known as ' The Canoe River Guy ', who gave us an insight about his passion for the river Freshney, blow wells and environmental advocacy.

In March, the club celebrated International Women's Day with a Food Festival featuring sausages and dishes from around the world. The day provided everyone with an opportunity to come together within the club to celebrate not just the event, but to celebrate their friendships with ladies from different countries and backgrounds. This annual celebration is one of our main fundraising events and we were able to raise£800 for our nominated charities.
Following a successful AGM, a lot of work and effort was put into organising our very first HIWC Recycled Fashion Show in June. We were asked to donate quality clothing, including handbags, jewellery and accessories and our ' In House Models ' were walking the catwalk showing fabulous outfits. It turned out to be a fun morning, adding more than £850 to our charity fund.

After taking a well deserved summer break, we will be welcoming Derek Clarke to our next General meeting on Thursday, 17 Sept at Nettleton Village Hall, 10am for a 10.30am start. Derek will be testing our knowledge on everything old, weird & wonderful with an Antiques Quiz.

The Humberside International Women's Club is a friendship club, promoting friendship and offering support to women with international backgrounds and interests.
