Starting again doesn’t mean she failed — It means she chose herself again

In just two months, Nicole has lost over two stone.

For the past year, Nicole has spent her time helping other people believe they could change their lives. Then, two months ago, she realised it was time to believe in herself again too.

When she thinks back to September 2025, she never could have imagined how much becoming a Slimming World Consultant would change her life. It all started with a Facebook video about an opportunity event. She thought she’d simply pop along and see what it was about, not knowing that one little decision would lead her to where she is today.

Slimming World has always been part of Nicole’s life. Her mum was a Consultant when she was growing up, so she knew from an early age that it was about so much more than food or weight loss. It’s about friendships, confidence, support and finding somewhere you belong.

She was incredibly excited on her first night as a Consultant, but secretly nervous too. If she could go back and speak to that version of herself, she’d simply say, “Take a breath. You’ve absolutely got this.”

A year later, one of the most rewarding parts of her role has been watching her members grow in confidence. Seeing someone walk through the doors unsure of themselves and then watching that confidence grow week after week is something she will never take for granted.

But then came a moment when Nicole realised she needed to do the same for herself.

Around two months ago, on her birthday weekend, she stood looking at a wardrobe full of clothes and couldn’t find anything she felt comfortable in. That moment really hit her. She realised she had been putting herself at the bottom of the list for too long.

So the next morning, she made a decision. She was joining a slimming world group again — not as the Consultant but as a member too.

Nicole is a mum to two young boys, has a busy life and just like everyone else, life doesn’t always go to plan. There are birthdays, family days out, commitments and unexpected moments. But that’s real life.

She isn’t trying to put her life on hold. She’s learning to make Food Optimising (Slimming World’s eating plan) work around it by being prepared, keeping snacks ready at home and taking on-plan picnics when she’s out with the boys. It’s about making the plan fit around her life, rather than waiting for life to become perfect.

The support from her members has been incredible because Nicole is no different to them. She has good weeks, difficult weeks and everything in between and now she’s genuinely doing this alongside them.

In just two months, Nicole has lost over two stone but the number on the scales is only part of the story. She feels happier and more comfortable in her clothes. She’s started going to the gym and is wearing bright colours again instead of automatically reaching for leggings and a baggy jumper.

Most importantly, she feels like she has her confidence and energy back. With two little boys, that means everything. Being able to run around with them and genuinely enjoy it is something she’s incredibly grateful for.

She hasn’t just lost two stone. She’s gained pieces of herself back - her confidence, her energy, her love of clothes, her motivation and the feeling that she can be the mum she wants to be.

Nicole knows what it feels like to have been on a journey before and then find yourself needing to start again but she doesn’t see starting again as failure. Starting again doesn’t mean you failed. It means you cared enough about yourself to begin again.

Life changes, circumstances change and sometimes we put ourselves last. That doesn’t erase everything we achieved before. Whether someone has been away from group for a few weeks, a few months or much longer, there is no judgement. There is simply a door that is always open.

That’s what makes Nicole’s groups so special. They celebrate the good weeks, support each other through the difficult ones, share ideas, laugh, encourage each other and celebrate every milestone big or small. Because half a pound, one pound, two pounds or two stone it all matters, every loss is a step towards the life you want.

Nicole spent her first year as a Consultant helping other people believe they could do it. Now, her members are helping her believe she can do it too. She genuinely feels like she has the best job in the world and is so excited for everything the next year will bring more certificates, more celebrations, more tasters, more laughter and hopefully, lots more life-changing journeys.

If someone is sitting at home thinking, “I really need to make a change,” Nicole wants them to know they don’t need to have everything figured out. They don’t need to be perfect. They just need to take that first step and if they’ve tried Slimming World before, remember, starting again is always an option.

Nicole’s groups meet every Wednesday at Lindum Sports Association, St Giles Avenue, LN2 4PE, with sessions at 5.30pm and 7pm. There’s a warm welcome, plenty of support, lots of ideas and absolutely no judgement.

If you’re nervous, embarrassed or worried about walking through the doors, Nicole understands. But that first step could change more than your weight, it could change your life.
