The ‘Blue Light’ tribute to Anujkumar Kuttikkottu was organised to take place at the same time as the ‘Clap for Carers’, which takes place at 8pm every Thursday as people across the UK gather on their doorsteps and at their gates to applaud the frontline carers who are putting themselves at risk to help us all.

And at 8pm, dozens of Pilgrim staff were joined by other emergency services to show their respect to Pilgrim staff nurse Anujkumar, known as Kumar, a husband and father of two.

The 44-year-old died on Monday after testing positive for coronavirus.

A lone piper played as the crowds of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other hospital staff gathered to pay tribute to the nurse, one of more than 100 health care professionals to have died with coronavirus in the UK.

They were joined by police officers and other emergency workers.

Emergency vehicles gathered and flashed their lights and honked their horns as the piper played prior to the applause.

And a number of blue balloons were released as the applause outside the hospital, echoed by the clapping that could be heard throughout Boston and across the UK, came to an end.
