'An incredible milestone' - Volunteer-run community radio station in Boston celebrates 10 years of FM broadcasting

A volunteer-run community radio station in Boston is celebrating 10 years of broadcasting on FM.

107 Endeavour FM launched on August 22, 2016.

The station’s roots stretch back further, though, to Stump Radio broadcasts in 2006 and the launch of Endeavour Online in 2009.

Run entirely by volunteers, its team of about 35 people reach up to 9,500 listeners each week. Shows are broadcast live, typically from its studios in Boston.

Alongside music and entertainment, it provides the likes of daily travel and weather bulletins, information on upcoming events, while striving to be, in its words, ‘a beacon of positivity for the town’.

Station director Dylan Taylor said: “Reaching 10 years on FM is an incredible milestone and one that we are immensely proud of.

“When we launched on FM in 2016, our ambition was simple: to give Boston Borough a radio station it could truly call its own. Ten years later, I'm proud to say that’s exactly what our volunteers have built together.

“We've been privileged to give local people a platform, help launch broadcasting careers, champion local musicians, support charities, businesses and community organisations, and celebrate everything that’s great about Boston borough. None of it would have been possible without our volunteers, supporters and, most importantly, our listeners.”

The station’s work has received wider recognition, with a young presenter shortlisted in the Young Audio Awards, a presenter winning Gold for Sage Person of the Year at the Community Radio Awards, and another taking Bronze for Entertainment Show of the Year. The station and individual volunteers have also received local awards, including recognition for services to the town and wider community.

One particularly memorable moment from the past 10 years came in 2018, when His Majesty King Charles III, then The Prince of Wales, visited the studios and met volunteers during a visit to Boston.

The station has been financially self-sufficient since its FM launch, covering its own operating costs and reinvesting in the service. It has recently invested in new broadcast equipment and a second studio to future-proof the station for the next decade.

A new website and app are also launching as part of the anniversary, while Endeavour FM says it is exploring opportunities to expand its coverage in the future.

Ten years after first appearing on 107 FM, it says its mission remains the same: ‘to provide Boston Borough with a genuinely local radio station, run by local people for local people’.
