Boston United twice hit back for share of the spoils at Tamworth

Boston United twice fought back to claim a share of the National League spoils in a 2-2 draw at Tamworth on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Grimes levelled in the 32nd minute, after ex-Pilgrim Kieren Donnelly had given hosts Tamworth the lead nine minutes earlier, and Lenell John-Lewis then equalised in the 63rd minute after Morgan Roberts had re-established the Lambs’ lead 10 minutes previously.

The result ensured United avoided a third consecutive defeat and was achieved with a starting XI including Kai Mauro and Connor McBride for the first time in the National League this season.

The early chances fell the way of Tamworth, who saw Dan Creaney hook an effort too high, while Louis Chadwick saved well to deny ex-Pilgrim Ben Milnes.

Rhys Lovett, another United old boy, saved well to keep out Mauro's curling free-kick but the Lambs edged ahead when Donnelly glanced home a looping, close-range header after meeting Milnes' ball in the box.

Chadwick subsequently saved well to deny TJ Bramble and it laid the platform for United to level when Grimes rose highest at the back post to power home Sai Sachdev's corner.

Tamworth went back in front eight minutes after the break, with the Pilgrims failing to clear their lines amid sustained Lambs' pressure and Roberts lifted home a fine effort, beyond Chadwick's grasp, from 18 yards.

John-Lewis replaced Ken Aboh on the hour mark and drew United level within three minutes - latching on to Sachdev's raking pass to run away from Jordan Cullinane-Liburd and slide the ball past former team-mate Lovett.

Tom Cursons dragged a late chance wide, while Chadwick saved well to deny Creaney and substitute Nathan Tshikuna's 20-yard drive flew narrowly wide for the hosts as honours finally ended even in a breathless affair.
