Brigg Town see off powerful Dearne in FA Vase five-goal thriller

Their reward in the draw was a home clash with Selby Town on Saturday, 10th October.

Joint manager Stephen McCarron said: “It was a really good performance and we showed some good quality against a top, top side.

“It is testament to what the lads are doing – all their hard work is paying off.

“We had five 18-year-olds or under out there against a top side. We have some good, young players here and people should be excited.

“I think a lot of people thought that would be a free hit today but that's not how I saw it.”

Brigg made a fine start with two early goals.

On five minutes their first corner was flicked on at the near post and headed home by Charlie Flemming.

Three minutes later Adam Drury grabbed his second assist after a lovely ball floated to the back post saw Josh Batty smash in a diving header.

That sparked Dearne to up a gear and on 23 minutes they pulled one back before levelling five minutes later.

Brigg had another effort chalked off for offside while a Batty penalty hit the bar just before the break.

The winner came on 64 minutes as Flemming flicked on a header at the near post and at the front post and it looped in at the back stick.

On Saturday, Brigg are back in NCEL Division One action at Leeds UFCA.
