Wongers’ goals against Bottesford came from Aiden Willerton and Jamie Behan, but a disputed red card for Willerton after just 15 minutes left them up against it.

Willerton had been the midweek hero with a brace against Wyberton.

“We were fantastic against Wyberton on Tuesday night, who’d won both of their previous games by big scorelines,” said joint boss Lewis Burchnall.

“We knew it would be a battle against them because it always is, but we did the dirty work and also had the quality to win the game.

“We had all the chances in the match and even their goal was an own goal against the run of play, so we fully deserved the three points.

“Liam Cotton in particular was excellent, although we had a lot of good performances.

“We hoped that win would be a platform to go to Bottesford on Saturday and get a result but it wasn’t to be.

“It’s difficult to mention the officials after a defeat without it sounding like sour grapes, but wrongly being reduced to 10 men after only 15 minutes had a huge impact on the game.

“We do have to look at ourselves as well though and accept we were far short of the standard we’d set earlier in the week. “

The Wongers are due to be back in action away at Wyberton in midweek before Saturday's visit of Cleethorpes Town Reserves.
