Burglar who caused thousands of pounds' worth of damage at Boston home jailed for two years

A burglar who caused damage to the value of about £15,000 at a home in Boston has been jailed for two years.

Georgi Tsvetanov, 37, forced his way into the empty property in Wainfleet Road through the patio doors on February 15.

Lincoln Crown Court was told the house had been left secure and checked by family members the previous day.

Passing sentence on Tuesday (September 1), Judge Simon Hirst told Tsvetanov: “The patio doors had been forced open. Areas had been stripped out and copper piping had been removed.

“The central heating tank and taps had also been stolen. There was significant damage.

“The cost of the items stolen and the damage was about £15,000.”

A cigarette was recovered from the scene with DNA matching Tsvetanov.

Tsvetanov was arrested during the early hours of April 2, after police were called to the Peugeot Taylors dealership in Ashton Hall Drive, Boston.

Judge Hirst told Tsvetanov: “Present were you and a female. You had arrived by pedal cycle.

“You were wearing a rucksack which smelt of fuel. You had tools such as allen keys, you had spanners. You had tubes for siphoning fuel.”

Tsvetanov, of no fixed address, later admitted two charges of burglary and going equipped.

Leanne Summers, mitigating, told the court Tsvetanov – a Bulgarian national – was now a serving prisoner and had spent his time by getting off drugs.

Miss Summers added: “He wishes to be deported back to Bulgaria.”

Jailing him for two years, Judge Hirst told Tsvetanov he had caused substantial damage during the burglary.

“There was significant planning and organisation,” Judge Hirst added.

“I am told you want to be deported.”

Judge Hirst explained the issue of deportation would be a matter for the Home Office and prison authorities and not one for the court.
