Boston United boss Hurst happy with quintet of new arrivals

Boston United manager Paul Hurst is delighted with a productive week that has seen them make five signings - with the latest arrival being Rotherham United’s versatile Jack Holmes.

The 24-year-old scored his first two League One goals in the Millers' 3-2 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in May and now arrives at the Jakemans Community Stadium on an initial one-year contract, with a further year's option.

Capable of playing wide or in a central attacking midfield role, Holmes' versatility is likely to be a major plus point for the Pilgrims.

Holmes followed the arrival of 24-year-old defender George Ward for an undisclosed fee from Buxton on an initial two-year contract, with a further year’s option, having enjoyed a stellar campaign at Silverlands.

Buxton were beaten play-off semi-finalists – with Ward making a big impact after arriving from Leamington the previous summer.

Also signed this week were Gibraltan international duo Nicholas Pozo and Kai Mauro plus Terrell Agyemang from Wealdstone to add to early summer signing Gavan Holohan.

Boss Paul Hurst said: “George is a centre back that I watched last season who had a bit of interest in him, but we’ve managed to convince him to come to us.

“He’s had a different pathway in terms of his career so far and a lot of it is just working his way up the non-league pyramid. He’s got both sides to his game, being quite comfortable on the ball but can also defend.

“I still feel there is still further improvement in him and I like the fact he’s not being sort of spoilt in terms of Academy football.

“He’s a good honest character and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

He added: “Terrell is someone that impressed me when I watched him last season.

“He can play right back but I have stressed he is very much being brought in as a midfield player for us. That is where I see him playing and where Terrell feels his best position is as well.

“He has got experience at the level but I think he is now at the point in his career where he needs to find a home.

“We have given him a two year deal, so hopefully that shows the faith we have in him and he can settle in and start to show people what he can do.”

On the two young Gibraltar internationals, Hurst said: “I know the Gibralter international team manager and their agent as well, so it's given me an insight and maybe first opportunity to bring these lads across.

“Nicolas plays for the national team and the top team over there.

“With respect, Gibralter are often the underdogs in their international games but with his club side he has been playing for the best side, so he has experienced both sides of the game where his team is well on top or under the cosh.

“That is good overall experience for a young player and we now want him to come and try to impress in England.

“Kai is younger still, a left back, who also plays for the national team.

“He is athletic and gets up and down the pitch well.

“There are no guarantees with any player and these lads certainly have more of a hurdle to get over with getting settled over here.

“Of course the language is not a barrier, but it will be a bit of a culture change for them. We will do all we can to help them settle and try to help them develop their games.”

Two players have gone out with midfielder Liam Waldock joining National League North Worksop Town on a season-long loan deal and striker Kieren Donnelly completing a move to National League rivals Tamworth.
