Trialists strike as Boston United edge friendly at Alfreton Town
Two of their trialists were on target as Boston United ran out 2-1 winners at Alfreton Town in their second pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.
It was the Pilgrims' first game at the Derbyshire venue since the epic National League North play-off semi-final in April 2024, which United won on penalties.
Alfreton, just relegated to the NPL Premier Division for this season, went ahead on 40 minutes through Charlie Finney, the home keeper having earlier denied Tom Cursons for the visitors.
Boston made nine changes at the break and were level within four minutes as Trialist B swooped with an equaliser.
And on 59 minutes Trialist D nodded home Scott's long throw-in to put the Pilgrims ahead.
The win followed Saturday’s opening narrow 1-0 defeat by promoted Championship side Lincoln City.
Boston now prepare for the visit of Peterborough United on Saturday (3pm).
BOSTON FIRST HALF: Faxon, Ging, Shipley, Raikhy, Ward, Grist, Holmes, Pozo, Cursons, Trialist D, Trialist A. BOSTON SECOND HALF: Chadwick, Trialist D (Clayton 68), John-Lewis, Scott, Lankshear, Ward (Trialist C 68), Agyemang, Hammond, Clayton, McBride, Teale.
